"We believe our first responsibility is to the doctors, nurses and patients, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services....
We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work...."
--Our Credo
The values that guide our decision-making are described in Our Credo. Put simply, Our Credo challenges us to always put the needs and well-being of the people we serve first.
Janssen is therefore fully committed to provide high quality products and services to healthcare professionals, patients and their families.
It is important for us to understand all aspects of patients’ needs. That’s why we engage and collaborate with patient organisations, who play an important role to inform, support, and assist patients. As a company, we learn from this interaction, and that helps us in the development of new treatments and in providing useful information and support.
It is our goal to ensure that these relationships and partnerships proceed within a principled framework of mutual respect and learning, integrity, independence, and transparency.
This framework has been described in the “Code Of Practice On Relationships Between The Pharmaceutical Industry And Patient Organisations", as developed by the European Federation Of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (EFPIA) in collaboration with pan-European patient organisations. Our company adheres to these principles.
Its key components are the following:
- The independence of patient organisations, in terms of their political judgement, policies and activities, will be assured.
- All partnerships between patient organisations and the pharmaceutical industry will be based on mutual respect, with the views and decisions of each partner having equal value.
- The pharmaceutical industry will not request, nor will patient organisations undertake, the promotion of a particular medicine.
- The objectives and scope of any partnership will be transparent. Financial and non- financial support provided by the pharmaceutical industry will always be clearly acknowledged.
- The pharmaceutical industry welcomes broad funding of patient organisations from multiple sources.
In order to facilitate collaboration, Janssen has developed the following:
-
A Review process by a multi-disciplinary committee to evaluate requests for funding or collaboration.
-
Disclosure of the funding provided to patient organisations. The purpose of our disclosure of contributions is to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to transparency.
-

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is the information about contributions being disclosed?
Janssen is proud to provide contributions to various patient organisations. We believe that being transparent about these contributions is the appropriate action to demonstrate our commitment to patients’ needs. The contracts with the patient organisations may also be consulted upon written request.
2. How is the level of contribution determined and distributed?
The level of contribution is determined by a specific internal Company review procedure. As a general rule, any cooperation with a patient organisation must ensure the continued independence of the patient group from Janssen. Funding amounts may be based on project/event budgets, fair market value, organisational geographic scope, and merits of the request. This may be of an equal or lesser amount than requested in the application.
3. How are programmes that are jointly supported by Janssen and another business reported?
Each company is responsible for reporting the contribution it provides to a specific patient organisation.
4. Are the volume of requests and the number of approvals generally consistent over the course of a calendar year?
The number of contribution requests Janssen received varies throughout the year. The quantity, timing, and nature of requests are determined by the needs of the organisations submitting proposals to Janssen.
5. How is the reporting period for funding determined?
All reported funding is represented per calendar year. The information will be included on the company website after a contract between the patient organisation and the company has been signed or once the company has made the contribution. Contracts that relate to more than one year will be reported in all respective years. The information will remain available for 2 years.
