The active ingredient in Nizoral® Shampoo is ketoconazole.
Each gram (g) of Nizoral® Shampoo contains 20 milligrams (mg) of ketoconazole as well as several other 'non-medical' ingredients that act as cleansers.
Nizoral® Shampoo is a thick pink liquid which is available in 120ml bottles that should be stored at 25 degrees C or below.
Several conditions affecting the skin are caused by small organisms that usually live quite harmlessly on the skin but from time to time are produced in too large numbers. This leads to conditions such as dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis and pityriasis versicolor. The organism is called Pityrosporum ovale (pron: pity-ro-spor-um O-vale-y). The condition is treated by eradication the organism from the skin.
Nizoral® Shampoo is used as a shampoo in the conventional way, left on the scalp for three minutes and then washed off. For body conditions it is used as a body shampoo in the same way. The length of the treatment course varies with the condition and your doctor will advise you on how to use your medicine.
Nizoral® Shampoo is for external use only. Use in children and the elderly is the same as for adults. None of the active ingredient is detected in the blood after use so it is suitable for use if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
