A patient information leaflet is included in every pack of medicine. You should read this carefully before taking your medicine.
The patient information leaflets for Vermox® can be found here.
If you have any questions about a condition or medicine, always consult a healthcare professional.
Vermox® is available as an orange coloured and flavoured tablet containing the active ingredient mebendazole. Vermox® is also available as a white, banana flavoured suspension, containing the active ingredient mebendazole.
Vermox® belongs to a group of medicines called anthelmintics.
Vermox® is used for the treatment of threadworms and other common worm infections (e.g. whipworm, pinworm, roundworm and hookworm).
Vermox® works by preventing the worms from obtaining glucose so that they are unable to maintain enough energy to survive.
Vermox® will kill threadworms after a single dose. Your doctor may recommend that a second dose is taken after 2 weeks in case of re-infection.
For other common worm infections, Vermox® should be taken for three consecutive days or as directed by your doctor.
Vermox® is generally well tolerated. However, patients with high parasitic burdens when treated with Vermox® have manifested diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Rarely, allergic reactions have been reported.
For further information about Vermox®, including possible side effects, please refer to the patient information leaflet or speak to your doctor.
